RAINBOW STRIKES TWICE TO TAME THE HUNTERS

Hearts came, they saw and they conquered on enemy grounds, it will only take a brave and highly determined warrior to go to war with two enemies and most especially on the enemy ground and victoriously come out unscathed. Such is the story of Hearts of Oak.

The MTN FA Cup was successfully defended by Hearts of Oak after they gloriously dispatched the much-bragged Bechem who had their “bankrollers”, Kotoko, behind them coupled with their supporters who named themselves “FRIENDS OF BECHEM”.

The few fans of Hearts who were at the stadium were unperturbed. They made their presence felt with massive support right from the blast of the whistle to the end.

The match was characterized by lots of off-field incidence with Bechem making it categorically clear that they are poised for victory and have made everything spiritually possible to win the game, what they forgot was that when the RAINBOW STRIKES….that is it.

Hearts of Oak scored 2 beautiful goals to deny Bechem after they took the lead in the first half to send Hearts Fans into a silent mood. Bechem had it at the back of their mind to win what they call their ticket to travel out of Ghana.

Goals from Caleb Amankwah and Barnieh settled the match and declared the winner. A successful defence of the title by Hearts of Oak brings some smiles to the faces of the fans of the club.

Caleb whose goal has been described as superb was scored at the nick of time after Bechem's defenders were beaten from a telepathic pass between Inkoom and Barnieh, the final delivery came from Inkoom when he sent in a cross to set up a sweet sweep from Caleb, who drove the ball low into the down left corner of goalkeeper Abdulai. It was the equalising goal in the first half. Motivation for the Hearts players.

The second half saw Bechem making a run at our gallant defenders who ensured that much touted Augustine Okrah was kept at bay and caused supporters to see that he was just an ordinary player with so much hype. Hearts immediately turned the heat on Bechem again as they did in the first half with possession. Awako and Ansah Botchway dictated the affairs in the midfield to the admiration of the football fans in the stadium.

One of the best football displays from the players found its way to Obeng who chested and laid a pass to Awako whose eventual pass to the birthday boy, Afriyie Barnieh was easily and stylishly dispatched into the net for the second goal to say ‘THANK YOU GOD “for this beautiful present. It was the goal that sealed the night for the defending champions.

It was a well-fought victory that practically explains the NEVER SAY DIE spirit of Hearts after four losses coming into this final.

Hearts have been granted a lifeline to represent Ghana again in the CAF confederations competition.
